John Clyde Thompson, Jr.

Died: August 12, 1971, in Vietnam

John C. Thompson, Jr. was a graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School and the University of Nebraska. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

John Thompson is survived by his wife Mary Margaret; parents Mr. and Mrs. John C. Thompson, Sr. of Lincoln; brother Curtis at home; sister Mrs. David (Susan) Blecha of Ewing, NE; and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heinzman of Omaha.

Services were handled by Hodgman Splain-Roberts Mortuary, 4040 A Street in Lincoln.

Good h.s. and college friend. Was in Army ROTC, graduated with a degree in Chem Engineering, married right out of college, became a chopper pilot in Viet Nam, and was killed approx. one year later. The year was probably 1970, but could have been 1971 or even ’72. I don’t know the details, but those guys were sitting ducks.  I know he died a hero, doing what he believed in.
